Two inputs to one output
Pituitary somatotrophs receive two distinct stimulatory signals. GHRH analogs act on the GHRH receptor; growth-hormone secretagogues act on the ghrelin receptor, GHS-R1a. Both converge on pulsatile growth-hormone release, which in turn drives hepatic IGF-1 expression. Studying them separately isolates the pathway; studying them together tests whether the inputs are additive or redundant — which is why paired reference sets are common here.
