Bacteriostatic water — sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol — is the standard laboratory diluent for reconstituting lyophilized reference peptides in multi-draw vials. The preservative suppresses bacterial growth so a vial can be sampled across a working interval rather than once.
Why it ships separately
Diluent is not included with reference compounds. Different protocols call for different diluent volumes and, in some cases, different diluents entirely, so the choice belongs to the laboratory rather than the supplier.
Handling
Store sealed at room temperature away from light. Wipe the stopper with isopropyl alcohol before each draw and introduce diluent slowly against the vial wall — never as a jet into the lyophilized cake.
